Good morning Robins. I hope you enjoyed your home learning yesterday. The weather was a lot cooler, compared to last week, but at least it didn’t rain!
Your ‘White Rose Maths’ lessons continue today with learning about measures and you will be measuring mass (weight) in kilograms (see separate blog).
Today’s BBC Bitesize English lesson will give you another chance to write a poem – this time you will be writing a counting poem. Just to remind you, a poem is a piece of writing that expresses a thought, an emotion or a story. Poems can rhyme, use alliteration or have rhythm, but they don’t have to. To begin this work watch a short video, which will explore writing a poem with a chef, whose ingredients are words. Afterwards, read an Oxford Owl action rhyme poem, which counts down from three to none – Three Little Frogs Sitting on a Wall. There is another short video, to remind you of the different types of sentences, which do different jobs – to state a fact, ask a question, give an order or express an emotion. The first activity gives you an opportunity to imagine you are a teacher and you are teaching somebody to write exciting sentences. One of your top tips could be that descriptive language makes a sentence more exciting. Then complete a poem with the missing words, highlighting those that rhyme. Finally, write your own counting poem, which needs to count up to ten, or backwards from ten. Your poem can be about absolutely anything and can be as silly as you want it to be. It doesn’t have to rhyme, but it can.
Your third lesson is Geography and is about The Seasons, which you learnt about earlier in your home learning. You will also find out about the type of weather in the UK during Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. There is a short animation, which takes you on a journey through the four seasons, a list of words to help you describe the seasons and a quiz. Afterwards, you can draw pictures of the seasons and you can either use the activity sheet from Britannica Digital Learning – ‘The Seasons’, or use a piece of paper. Finally, there is a further opportunity to play ‘Pirate Bunnies: World Adventures’. Remember, you will be exploring the UK and the rest of the World and earn some treasure by completing quests.

Today is Tuesday, so here are your spellings to practise this week. W.S.1 contains the spellings, which are a little more challenging, but you are free to choose whichever list you feel able to learn, or you can always practise both lists.
Seaside Holidays in the Past
Today’s seaside holiday task is to make a comparison between going to the seaside in Victorian times with going there today. The photos above show people eating at the seaside during different time periods. I am giving you some information from a book to read, before you complete a short piece of writing and draw two pictures. One picture should show a Victorian seaside location and include as many features as possible and the second one should show a seaside location for today, again including as many features as you can think of.
Here is a writing frame you can use for your comparison, but feel free to choose your own format for this work.
