I can’t express in words how pleased I was to finally have a full class back! It has been a very long time and I thought that the children would be very anxious but they were amazing. They came in with huge smiles, full of news and settled so quickly.
The children were all given reading books. Please write a comment in the reading diary so we can make sure that the next books will be at the correct level for them, a level where they can read independently with just a little help. The guided reading that I do with groups in the class uses books that are a little more challenging, I can guide them through the book.
We had a phonic lesson on Thursday. Phonics are taught in daily discrete lessons, we will begin by revising the phonics they covered in reception, and then move on to new letter patterns.
In Swan Class we try to encourage a love of learning. Children who are having fun are engaged in their learning, so we are doing lots of silly activities to help our team building. Ask your child about our surf lessons!
Next week we have PE on Wednesday and Thursday so please send your child to school in a PE kit. The weather looks amazing so shorts should be fine. Don’t forget that every child needs a NAMED water bottle, they really need lots to drink during the day and in Y1 we don’t use cups like reception.
I have heard from a parent that the school app isn’t working. The website can be accessed by searching for hemblingtonprimaryschool.org and it really is the best place to get information. If you have a question or message for me, either ring/email the office or see me on the playground in the morning or after school.
Well done on the first few days and I’m looking forward to seeing the children on Monday.
