Cygnet Learning

W/e 21.10.20

This week we were given a present of some large cardboard boxes. We read “My Cat Likes to Hide in Cardboard Boxes” and this led to lots of drama as we acted out the different cats in the story. We read the story several times and the children enjoyed joining in with the refrains. We loved watching Pete the Cat’s New Shoes and joining in with the words. We have been making patterns in our maths. We used things from our Autumn collections and items from around the classroom indoor and outdoor environments. We made edible patterns with fruit and vegetables. We also recorded patterns by printing with fruits and vegetables. We have been learning about what makes a good print and how to make a good print. We have been learning about Harvest. We talked about the things we harvest from our own gardens and we learned that some of our foods are harvested in Britain and others come from other countries. We enjoyed learning the song Big Red Combine Harvester and sang it for Ms Collier. We celebrated Harvest Festival by dressing up as fruits and vegetables and Cygnet Class collected an amazing quantity and range of goods for the Night Shelter.

We started the Just Like Me 1,2,3 phase in White Rose Maths. We started reading Anno’s Counting Book and have started to make a Cygnet Class counting book. We have been thinking of lots of different ways to represent numbers. We finished our first half term at school by daring to be different in the way we dressed to come to school. We also had a visitor to help us celebrate National Apple Day. We thought about how we could make apple juice and then Mr Coddling showed us how to make it with his apple press. We also had an apple tasting and voted for our favourite apple. Cygnets love apples!
