This week is walk to school week. Some families parked their cars away from Mill Road and the children walked to school and some children enjoyed riding to school on their scooters. We have enjoyed our track time and are challenging ourselves to run at least 3 times around the field.
We have been observing the changes in our seedlings in the greenhouse and inside. We all planted runner beans and made special labels for them with the giant’s castle in the clouds. At fruit time one of the children was excited to find lots of seeds inside a mini pepper. We saved them and will plant them. We harvested our cress and used our fine motor skills to make cress and cream cheese sandwiches. We enjoyed acting out Jack and the Beanstalk in dance and then we recorded the story with a story map. We were given an unexpected gift of a lovely bunch of rhubarb. We had learned about it as a plant which is harvested in Spring. We tried thin raw slivers of it in our mindfulness time. We also tried it stewed again observing how it looked, the pattern on it, the colours, how it felt, smelt and tasted. Some of the children wanted second helpings. In maths we have been learning about taking away by telling now, then and next stories. We used coins to play a fun pirate counting game which involved taking away. We would like to say a big “thank you” to the Friends who gave us a super present of a selection of new books. They are story books but they all support us with our maths learning.
