Our week started with volcanos erupting in the tough tray. We enjoyed listening to “Dylan’s Amazing Dinosaurs, Tyrannosaurus Rex.”
In Maths we were comparing amounts; little/big, large/small, fewer/more, longer/shorter. We enjoyed listening to and joining in with “Golidlocks and the Three Bears.” We learned new sounds g,o,c,k and to blend sounds to read the words such as and. We learned to use a phoneme frame to help us segment sounds to build words. We drew pictures of the special people in our families and used our phonic knowledge to label our drawings. We had an impromptu fruit café on the day we were learning the c sound. We made café signs using our phonic knowledge and paid for the fruit we chose with real money. One of the children made a crown. We shared the story “This is the Bear” and used our phonic knowledge to read some of the words. We are beginning to spot the sounds we are learning in books and the environment.
One of the children made a card and made an envelop to put it in. Two of the boys had a joint birthday party and very kindly gave the class some wildflower seeds. These were the inspirations for our sunflower seed learning this week. We used tweezers to take the seeds out of the sunflower heads, wrote labels and illustrated the envelops we made to put the sunflower seeds in. We took them home so that we can plant them with our families next year.
On Friday we listened to Cool and the Gang’s Celebration and moved to the beat of the music. One of the children said it made them feel “happy.” We finished the day reading “Kitchen Disco” which we loved.
