Cygnet News

w/e 9.7.21

This week we have been learning about repeating patterns in maths.  We compared lengths of Cuisenaire rods when we make staircases. We read “The Pattern Fish” and made our own fishes with repeating patterns.  We explored making patterns in a circle shape and the challenge of making sure we completed the unit of repeat.

We have continued to enjoy reading about different minibeasts in the Big Book of Bugs.  We were fascinated to learn about the praying mantis and how it has long front legs which help it to catch its prey.  We drew our favourite insects and then made them out of a range of materials.  In dance we moved. In lots of different ways as we changed from being one insect to another at the Ugly Bug Ball.  We started to read “The Boy Who Lost His Bumble” and discussed the things which we love and the things which make us feel sad. We had fun in PE practising our races for Sports Day.

In our SCARF lesson we thought about how we change as we grow.  We read “You’ll Soon Grow Into Them Titch.”  We thought about how we have grown during the time we have been in Cygnet class and the things we can do now that we could not do when we were babies.  We also discussed what we would like to do when we are older.
