Cygnet Class

w/e 30.4.21

We had an unfortunate start to our week when we discovered that our mini greenhouse had been blown over and the contents were scattered. We thought about what we could do to sort the problem out. We came up with the idea of tying the frame to the fence with string and we replanted our sunflowers. Fortunately we had enough seeds resow our pots. Cygnets never give up! Now we are looking forward to seeing how many seeds will germinate in each pot. We learned the new word germinate this week. We started to read our focus text Jack and the Beanstalk. There was lots of discussion about the character of Jack which led to some really great questions when we did hot seating. We talked about how Jack and his mother felt at the beginning of the story and this was followed up in our dance lesson with Caroline. One of the children found apple seeds in his apple so we planted apple seeds. We also planted mini pumpkin seeds which led to discussions about Halloween and how the children celebrated with their families. We used our phonics to write labels for our pots. We are beginning to develop a garden centre role play. In our phonics we have been learning to read and write CCVC words eg stop. In maths we have been learning about shape and met the new word “rotation.” The children love using Mobilo and have used their shape skills to copy models with bricks and Mobilo.
